š¤£š¤£š¤£ It was before your time on my Facebook. I've never met anyone who willingly says yes to this but now I have you in my Rolodex for next time š
Great read! My favorite Ikea experience now is ordering online with fast pickup. Fortunately, my house is furnished and I don't need to assemble things anymore. But I remember paying people in pizza and beer to get them to my house with their toolbox!
We don't have IKEA in New Zealand so I'm slightly jealous ā¹ļø had an entire house worth of IKEA furniture back home in Belgium though, so can still relate š
Wildhood is a Swedish synonym for common sense, isn't it? Ironically, we have 21 RĆDALM photo frames en route to a Staples store one hour south of us. We are four hours from the nearest IKEA but who knew Staples serves as a pick-up centre for Ikea?
Building an IKEA dresser expired many of my neurons 10 years ago---I had to SOS my landlord for the assist (those damn drawer rollers, slides and glides!). I am happy to see that the 'price' hasn't inflated by much. I offered beer and it took us a 6-pack to complete the task!
Kim and I decided last week that the BILLY bookcase (the one with 24 cube shelves) will stay with this house. It has seen four moves and four broken (ie. forever stuck + wood glued) dowels.
Maybe this is more your speed? https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/adventure-camp-cozy-cabins-42624 Geez, there's still 437 pieces BUT Lego now has a Builder App. "Let the new LEGOĀ® instructions app guide you on an easy and intuitive building adventure." No meatballs included BUT there is a Lego campfire for marshmallows.
Ah, you shoulda called me. I live for that stuff. I put together an office shelving unit/ file cabinet with one broken arm. Pretty proud of that one. ::puffs chest out::
The comedian Andrew Schultz had a funny bit on Ikea, in that once you walk into the store you won't get out for several weeks. he volunteered he would eat their meatballs if they let him out..lol
First of all š«£š¤£š¤ Iām laughing and nodding all at once! Youāre very clever! I made a solemn vow to myself to never ever buy IKEA furniture again, unless I prearranged a hulk to 1)ride along with me and 2) assemble the dang thing š.
My daughter (clever millennial that she is) taught me her IKEA secretā¦ first, locate what you want on line, write down its pertinent numbers, then you enter the store thru the exit doors by the cashiers, go to the computer just on the other side of the cashiers and look up the item to get the corresponding location number of said box, and go directly to that box which will be there near the cashiers. (Also close to those devious little meatballs!) many carts will be laying about for you to grab the heavy box, and go directly to checkout line. No more temptation (tho I find it very fun and tempting to see all their ideas).
HA! Look at your daughter being all smart and avoiding the temptations. For me, sometimes the temptation is half the fun of an Ikea day. If I have to drive that far to get there I make a point of spending half a day lol. Plus, I live in a small space so I love looking at small space ideas.
Yessss, the food joint right in the middle of the journey lol. So you can fuel up and keep trekking. You're right, their marketing and "pathway" to the end of the road is brilliant.
On another note, I had no idea that Ikea existed in Dubai. Wow.
IKEA!! You should see our store omg. Itās SO stunning and Christmas is GORJUS in there.
We literally donāt allow ourselves to go unless thereās a broken something but thankfully we are good on furnitureā¦ but our son just said maybe we should look at IKEA when I get a new bedroom setā¦ lollllz. #screwed š
2.5 hours to build and IKEA dresser? Yikes! He was either listening in on your conversations and distracted or all those strange directions and lots of parts stumped him for a bit! He shouldāve taken the $50 at least! That was only $20/hr. Heās a gem! Put him on speed-dial for next time! And get a bigger bottle of rum š
I feel like 2.5 hours is pretty good for a guy who wouldn't let us even hold a board in place while he fastened. Regardless, yes...he's a gem! I'm glad she volunteered him!
I love IKEA. I donāt love assembling IKEA furniture. But my 22-year-old single daughter does. Lucky for me, sheās living at home right now. Iām expecting she will have my shoe cabinet built any day now.
ā¦but maybe that was the flaw in your original ad. Maybe the men reading the ad thought it was some sort of veiled personal ad. Wonder if you had posted that you were looking for 2 people to assemble the IKEA project, some fabulous, construction-gifted lesbians (my daughter loves LEGO and women, too) would have been on your doorstep in a heartbeat? lol
Elizabeth, you're onto something! My wife is one of those construction-gifted women and is often helping our male neighbours out with projects! She single-handedly built our crib dock this summer---it took five guys three weekends to build the same-sized dock two doors over!
I think the Wildhood part comes from posting on Facebook asking for someone to come assemble in trade for alcohol and cash. I was hoping for some Jamaican-like adventure of a friend-of-a-friend type. although your husband of a not-daughter-daughter works just as well.
what I love most is the true giving in service to others that this post represents. That husband is a good man.
Honestly, that was the best part of it for me as well. James barely knows me from a hole in the ground but the fact that his wife dated my son when they were teenagers and she just stayed friends with our family is such a convoluted way for him to know us šš He's a great guy!
How How How did I miss the Facebook post to build an ikea piece of furniture!! Omggggg I would have brought my own booze.
I have IKEA family cards from 4 countries!!!!
Iām sad now š
Yaaaaas please!!!š

Thanks Michelle. My Ikea days are probably near their end lol. I'm fully furnished as well and it's too far to drive š
We don't have IKEA in New Zealand so I'm slightly jealous ā¹ļø had an entire house worth of IKEA furniture back home in Belgium though, so can still relate š
Oh wow, not a single one hey? Thatās a drag!
They are building one, I think it should open in 2025. It's been long anticipated for many years!
š¤£ I guess Iām in the minority, I love assembling Ikea furniture! As long as my husband stays out of the way. I wish we had an IKEA closer.
Hahaha definitely a minority!! But that's awesome.

Holy smokes, you deserve a trophy for that š You should be proud!
Thereās a knack to it. And you need knee pads for all the kneeling, scrutinizing silly little drawings with no words.
I have assembled SO MUCH IKEA stuff for other people. Once you put in your 10000 hours at a skill, you become a lot better at it.
If I lived in a city instead of the middle of buttock nowhere I would assemble IKEA furniture for a living.
Wow, no one in history has ever volunteered that service š Keep that in your back pocket for retirement.
The comedian Andrew Schultz had a funny bit on Ikea, in that once you walk into the store you won't get out for several weeks. he volunteered he would eat their meatballs if they let him out..lol
Hahahahaa!! Good old Ikea. Always great fodder.

Psā¦. Maybe sometime surprise them with a homemade lasagna and garlic bread. I bet theyād both love it.
I first heard if IKEA in about 1995 when our family of 4 moved to Al Ain (The Spring - as in water source) in The United Arab Emirates. We had teaching jobs at UAE University, which included housing and a furniture allowance. We actually bought the furnishings from the previous occupant, so never needed to visit IKEA. Our colleagues, on the other hand, made multiple trips to Dubai to furnish their flats and I heard all the stories. When I finally visited my first IKEA, I remember the yellow brick road factor mentioned above; you had to look at every display before exiting. Incredible marketing concept. For me, the best part was the little cafƩ oasis.

Hahahaha I never thought about that!! But this was only posted on my personal FB page, not in a community page. Iād never invite strangers over LOL.
I've never even been to Ikea, but you made it sound fascinating.
It really is, and if you went there for a FIRST time you'd be blown away by their demo small spaces.
That's hilarious, Kristi! Thank heavens for men, they sure come in handy at times. :-)
Key words: "At times." š
