Love this - there's still time... both older, wiser - really connected. get on extremely well.... I mean the main thing in a marriage I think is friendship. Oli and I have been married over 20 - my mum and dad over 60 - I think this door is wide open... it's whether you both want to step through it...
Sophie, I've been waiting for your response! And I do agree with you: Our communication nowadays just hits differently. We're both more mature and have lots more life experience. Who knows what the future holds for anyone? At the very least, Frederick and I will always be friends. At this stage in life, nobody has the power to piss me off anymore 😂
PS: Special cheers to your parents...60 years is amazing!!!
Thanks Teyani. And there's really only a little bit more to it, like the reason we didn't work out. I just chalk it up to him being 8 years younger. Back then an 8 year difference is significant in important ways. I was a parent and he wasn't (yet). My priorities were significantly different.
And these are only the stories I can actually tell online. There's a whole other side of my life (not so fun and uplifting) that will probably never make it onto a page but they're still awesome, jaw dropping, or not mine to tell.
You’re so hilarious! I love this story because I have similar beginning with my story: shotgun wedding for immigration papers, only 4 people attended (us, justice of the peace, witness/photographer). The difference, we’re still married 29 years later. Thank you for inspiring me to look back. A post may come out of this.
This feels like such a Kristi story; it's fun and lovely and sweet.
Yes, walking through your life through photos is a surreal experience. I did that recently, trying to find pics for my Italy piece. I look at that young woman who once was me and want to squeeze her and tell her, it's ok honey-everything will be ok. Until the next time, the world tilts off its access.
It's interesting to think about meeting our younger selves and sharing with them how it all turns out in the end. We're here now, giving our younger selves a voice.
Well, except for the divorce part, we did the same thing, we met on line, me in Canada he in the USA we got married 6 months later at the courts -- no one knew -- we had strangers as witnesses. We had a "wedding" in June and no one knew. Then spent 3 years with the separate lives flying back and forth to see each other until the immigration came through. That was 20 years ago!
Wow, Karen…you’re right, aside from divorce we’ve lived parallel lives! I’m so happy to hear yours is a success story! I say mine still counts since we’re still “together” as friends 😁😁
Indeed it counts. I’m glad you two are friends. Just like you mentioned “visiting” is quite different than living together. I was fortunate that he travels during the week and home on weekends which is why it worked. I used to call myself the married single mum 😂 I think if he had been home everyday it wouldn’t have lasted. Now look us living together in less than 500sq feet. 😂 .
A stroll through old photo albums are the best. I’m fortunate that my parents allow me to store some boxes in their basement. Photo albums and Vanlife don’t go fabulous together. So I hit mine up on very rare occasions. But the memories are always a delight when it happens
I love the sweetness of this story, Kristi! it suits you.
Long story really short, I was divorced in Arkansas and an old girlfriend from Georgia started e-mailing me. After a few years of writing back and forth and meeting each other. I moved to Georgia in 2000, got married during our lunch break in 2001 on 9/7, four days before 9/11 by a judge and we are still together, so it can work.
I can't believe it took til now for you to write about this?!!? This is the best story ever and I love your dress and the engagement picture.

Fantastic tale! And now I'm a little sad it didn't work out... you sounded like a lovely couple!
Awww well you never know what the future will hold for two single oldies 😁 If there's ever a reunion I'll definitely be writing about it.
Yeah!
That pregnancy test prank was brutal! 😂
🤣🤣 It was more puzzling than anything because....HOW??!!
Oh Kristi. What a tale.
Your heart full of mirth as you share this tale…. Tho I’m pretty sure there’s more to it all than has been shared. ❤️🩹

This is good story telling...you had me all the way.
Thanks so much Tracy! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
OMG Kristi! I've never met ANYONE with as many quirky life stories and crazy adventures as you! Hilarious and totally 'Wildhood!"
Lol Erik! I'll take that as a compliment 😁😁

Amazing! And it was absolutely intended as a compliment! 😁
So funny.

Awww that's so awesome!!!!! I'm happy for you two. If you ever do write the post, please tag me so i can read it 😊
Love the running gag. The pregnancy test. Haha. It’s also sweet that you’re still friends. 😊💕
Lol that pregnancy test was the BEST, for real. I couldn't believe my friend was willing to pee on a stick for me 😁😁
Laaaaaaayers!! So many layers!!
This is the best story!!
Hahahaha I known right!! People THINK they know me and then....
I do love our story though. It's one for the ages!

HA!! Very admirable in that amount of space!

Photo albums are the best! Every single one of them tells a story. ❤️
I love this story. Clearly, not all unions of kindred souls are meant to include toothbrushes on the same shelf.
What a lovely way to put it, Jan. I guess our toothbrushes were only meant for short rendezvous 😊 No regrets!

Paul, that's so awesome! I love how she was an old girlfriend and you ended up together in the long run. Great love story!
