Dog walking clothes is genius!! Add the pockets to your sweatpant line.
There are very popular pants and leggings for gun owners who conceal carry. Built in holsters.
My mom has friends who know gazillionaire inventors. Ie: The dentist who invented the tiny screw used in implants. The guy who invented the spring that's under every letter on our keyboards.
That's amazing ypur mom had friends in such high places!
I did contact a pattern designer and it was a huge investment just to get someone to design it, never mind the rest. I just don't have the money to make big things π
I don't know a soul who wants to part with their money on a whim π I've actually been down that road before and if the business flops and they don't get their money back, it's not awesome.
I learned a lot by watching Shark Tank, and I helped someone else try to take their project to completion, and there was so much to do, I agree, courage, fortitude, and at least some financial means to even get it to the table!
My father-in-law was an actual inventor, with a number of patents to his name, including for the dental air drill. Lest you think that brought him fame and fortune, most of his inventions were repeatedly ripped off, discounted, or sidelined by corporate interests. So even executing on a terrific idea (like dog walker hoodies!) is no guarantee of commensurate reward for all the work and time it takes to manifest that vision.
I once had an epiphany to mould melted sugar around a stick so people could just stir the stick in their tea or coffee and it would dissolve. My family just laughed at me, thought it was ridiculous. Sure enough a few years later someone came out with it!!!
Yup, I've used those sugar sticks before, usually in fancy coffee shops or restaurants. Man, that could have been your ticket! Just like the shower head could've been mine. Guess we missed our boats lol
Here is something I am grappling with. I have written a poem for every yoga pose and want them to be integrated into yoga teachings and curriculums. I often tell myself that this is audacious, preposterous, and who am I do even try this. Then I tell myself to give it ten years and keep going forward. I have always integrated seemingly disparate things and seen life and both physical and metaphysical, concrete and metaphorical. My Poem for Every Pose concept could be considered a new invention, no? Or a new idea. But not so new. What do you all think?
I would love if you read some and let me know what you think!
I wrote and edited 84 of them from 2021-2023 and have been slowly sharing them at festivals, studios, and here since 2024. It is all about baby steps and not stopping. Which my mind often wants to do, but then I remind myself I said ten years, then breathe, sigh, and get back to work!
I love "outing" the idea that we get in our own way. It is so true. My self-limiting beliefs have done more to stop me than any other human being on planet earth.
I remember being stuck in traffic on Deerfoot thirty years ago thinking, "if only I could talk on the phone in my car I could get so much done on this drive". My friend had the idea of a plug in cooker in the car that you could take to sporting events when you have to drive your kids to the hinterlands for their game. The meal would be warm and in the car.
Financing was my biggest reason for not following through on several ideas, that I now see implemented. I also wasn't aware of how to find someone to help me get it through channels. I think if I was aware of how to accomplish those two things, I may have pushed through to accomplish them.
I agree with this. I don't know the first thing about looking for backing on a great idea. When I watch Shark Tank I'm blown away by their courage and fortitude.
Iβd say you were put here to write your ideas, not build them, and thatβs A-OK. Not everyone can do what we do either!
Great article. Decades ago β long before they were available β I knew that backpack purses would be a hot item.
They definitely are now. Especially for travellers.
Many years ago, back in the day, my mom thought we should have drawstring garbage bags. And you know...it wasn't too long after that inundated!
Wow, just think it could've been you!! Crazy hey?
It is crazy!
Yes I did. Hubby and I, in 1988, said we should have indoor playgrounds never did it but a few years later someone else didπlol
As someone else always does lol.
My sister and I have brilliant ideas all the time. But thatβs where they end.
I think that's what happens to 95% of us lol.

It's never too late!

Investor/partner?

That's sad and honestly not surprising with the Temu's of the world lol. You see knock offs all the time, which sucks for the original idea makers.

We could have been multi millionaires!

I don't have the business oriented mind to be able to succeed with inventing something useful. π
Lol I don't either. I wish I did. When I watch Shark Tank I'm envious of their drive!
Kristi, I would consider all of your Substack hacks to be inventions - fitting the needs of the moment. π
Awww Carol, thank you so much for saying this π I guess I'm doing my little part over here in my own ways.

Yes! Do it!
Thank you! Oh, I am... but it is slow... you can read my most recent poems here-- https://coriefeiner.substack.com/

This post is awesome!
Isnβt that always the way! Here's to us getting out of our own way!

I think both of these things exist nowπ€£ Darn.
(Your dog-owner coat is a great idea!)
Omg Donna, the phone thing! And now look at us. We practically have phones surgically attached to our heads π Crazy to reflect back, isn't it?
I still love my dog jacket idea but I've suddenly become a non-risk-taker. Boooo.
There is a lot to be said for leaving risk behind for the greener pastures of peace and contentment (spoken like a true old personπ€£)
LOL we have arrived! (at OLD, that is π)
We collectively come up with so many ideas... but I do believe you put it out there with your thoughts!
Thatβs it Corie, thatβs exactly what happened!
You're right-no mind is average! What's average exactly!? We all have our gifts!
We sure do! Look at you...not everyone would choose to do (or even know how to do) what you and Mark did!!
I'll echo that.. we all have our gifts!
