I skipped ahead to the last one...and I'm glad I did. Love the website and the journey it took me on. Now...how do I stop this click happy finger on my mouse???
Well, it hasn't happened YET, but the way your comment landed in my brain, I thought it was going to be kind of a repeat of what I wrote. But it's not at all, and only served to enhance the conversation. So far, the only post that [would have been] a repeat was how to add a custom signature, and that's why I just decided not to write mine. Big magicking and building on each other's ideas, on the other hand, is total #winning
This is absolutely who I am. The hyphens are plentiful. I remember back in my OG mommy blogging days circa 2008; it was ground into me that a niche was where it was at. And that was fine back then. But now, as I turn 45, I have seen and done some things. I have created various businesses. I have gone through medical crises, and I was my dad's death doula. My niche is all over the place, hahaha. It is a multi-niche. So, that is what I am doing now. Writing what I want, everything from grief to herbalism to menopause, to wtf am I doing? And I kind of love it.
Yesssss Andrea! This sounds a lot like me, too. And I came from a background of writing in a super-niche for 10 years. I do think there's value in niches for some purposes but there's also a great big need to branch the hell out and flourish!!
Side note: Grief is such a huge topic, isn't it? I never would have discovered that had I not needed to write about it to save my life.
Ohhh my gosh friend - thanks for the mention - thanks for the support when I solo-traveled last week and it turned out PERFECTLY and so. damn. glad. to. find. FABULOUS YOU 🦋💕☺️
I can’t wait to get my travel worktirement thingy off the press and into the world with your help!! 📝 🌎 🗺️
Nothing better than a good cliff jump! Especially with a friend! 😜 PS I actually did that right after lockdowns to remind myself I was still alive. 🤸♀️
Thanks. From the earliest typewriter to today's voice generated text and computer desktop keyboards has been interesting developments. Typing was one of the more practical courses in high school in 1953. Tom Hanks, who collects old typewriters, wrote a book about them called "Uncommon Type"
Ooh me too! Black screen and green writing. In summer school, voluntarily, I think. I think I took the class because a boy I liked was taking it. The boy turned out to be a waste of time, but now that I am a full-time author, the class was anything but.
Just stumbled on your post and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your unique self and style!
English teacher in me didn't edit for wrong subject verb agreement. Should have been "have" instead of has" so there, Dr. Gruber, try and not make the same mistake again, at least not today. Now, get on with it. Do you ever have these silly conversations with yourself and what is the result?
The transition is the implied subject and singular. I know, that is not true but I thought I would run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes. My brain does weird things early in the morning, sometimes all day.
You are a GEM Kristi! And I’m so glad you crossed my path early in my Substack journey.
I’m loving the diversity you speak of here.
I’ve kind of steered clear of sticking to one lane in my writing, and thus haven’t fit in to some of the classes offered. Oh well. My stack’s slow growth feels like the tortoise, not the hair, which suits me well.
I feel like we will all find our people and our footing eventually. I'm just happy to keep providing inspiration for those looking for something different 😊
Kim, one thing at a time is definitely prudent lol. These workshops will be ongoing at different times of the year but for sure one of them is coming very soon. You're on the list so you'll be in the know!
And I'm so glad you found some inspo here! I LOVE the name of your Stack **runs to check out Bedtime snacks**
Thanks CK. These are less “business” and more pleasure for me. I’ve always wanted to do writing workshops but never collected my thoughts enough to execute!!
I actually haven't set dates yet, I want to build a little interest first but I see you got onto the list for the travel one. Since it's a longer commitment, I won't be starting that one until toward the end of May. But, you're on the list! You'll be the first to know.
This is so pertinent to how I have been feeling about my Substack and my life as a jill-of-many-artistic-trades and an expert at nothing (with the exception of my own life experience). Thanks for the thoughts!
Huzzah to you and all the fearless (mostly) generalists out there! If "write what you know" is really such a Thing, then what about someone like me who writes . . . fantasy?
My favorite line here is "specialize in all the things"!
How amazing that you got invited to a poetry workshop and it created an inner shift. Things like that happen when you say yes which is why you are our fearless leader and we try to be like you.
I skipped ahead to the last one...and I'm glad I did. Love the website and the journey it took me on. Now...how do I stop this click happy finger on my mouse???
Hahaha that is a question I can't answer because I suffer the same affliction 😆
Destination writing would be so cool to do, but I’m probably not going anywhere anytime soon. 😕
Ohhh this was so wonderful and not what I expected at all! Similar . . . but oh so uniquely useful.
And of course, it prompted me to pay homage to you in MY post for the week. Look for the Easter egg 😉
May we always share inspiration in a way that only makes the conversation more robust. I love us!
I love us too! I mean, we're the same person so I have to love all of us 😁
Okay, now I'm curious...what were you expecting?

And I can't wait to attempt reviving my YouTube channel 😂 We will hold each other's hands all the way over the cliff (Thelma & Louise) !!!
Nothing better than a good cliff jump! Especially with a friend! 😜 PS I actually did that right after lockdowns to remind myself I was still alive. 🤸♀️
What model of typewriter is that beauty? There are actual brain benefits to hand writing versus typing.
No idea! That's a stock photo, possibly AI generated lol
Thanks. From the earliest typewriter to today's voice generated text and computer desktop keyboards has been interesting developments. Typing was one of the more practical courses in high school in 1953. Tom Hanks, who collects old typewriters, wrote a book about them called "Uncommon Type"
Now there's a random fact I never knew about Tom Hanks! How fascinating.
BTW, typing was also a practical course in the late 80s. My typing class was on those old DOS computers with the black screen and green writing 😆
Ooh me too! Black screen and green writing. In summer school, voluntarily, I think. I think I took the class because a boy I liked was taking it. The boy turned out to be a waste of time, but now that I am a full-time author, the class was anything but.

Rosa, I'm glad you found my post and offered up your 2 cents. I think we all have "waste of time" boy stories 🤣 But hey...you're still writing!

Good advice for everyone else. Myself, I don’t know if I could go much more off the beaten path. I did write an entire post about wombats.
LMAOOOO well you’ve got me beat! I’ve never written about wombats…but mongooses (mongeese?) that I thought were ferrets…maybe 😁
I just posted a Note of the Wombat Writing Method. It's the only way to succeed on Substack.
On my way to participate in that madness 😩
I'd be interested in both workshops but signed fr one because even we have to do SOME things one at a time!
You did give me an idea to start making use of my own Substack (Bedtime Snacks) and start writing “all the things” right there!
Awe, thanks! I saw that you visited! Thank you so much. I'm going to get busy and get to work!
Kim, one thing at a time is definitely prudent lol. These workshops will be ongoing at different times of the year but for sure one of them is coming very soon. You're on the list so you'll be in the know!

Okay, Kristi. For starters, YOU ROCKED THE WORKSHOP (and not just in the you-rocked-it-because-you-showed-up way, but also that).
Then you hooked me with the "oddly fulfilling creative writing experience," even before I read on to see what it was about.
You're an inspiration, and you and your ridiculous buttons made me laugh this morning.
Heehee I'm so glad I could make you laugh. That seems to be my super power 😁
I really enjoyed your workshop Zach, it gave me tons of insight AND made poetry enjoyable!
You always have innovative biz ideas. I’m looking forward to this inspiration. Congrats!
Thanks CK. These are less “business” and more pleasure for me. I’ve always wanted to do writing workshops but never collected my thoughts enough to execute!!
I will very much be testing your theory with my piece later on this week. Don’t know if anyone other than myself will be interested in it. We’ll see!!
LOL and that's okay!!! But now that you've said it, I totally want to know what it is.
Genghis Khan 😬🤣
This is me right now! I needed to read your post today......when is the next workshop?
I actually haven't set dates yet, I want to build a little interest first but I see you got onto the list for the travel one. Since it's a longer commitment, I won't be starting that one until toward the end of May. But, you're on the list! You'll be the first to know.
Please put me on that list, not promising anything but am hopeful.
Which list, Gary? There were two different ones? The travel one?
What was the other one?
If you go to my homepage and scrolldown partway, you'll see both.

Mucho.

Huzzah to you and all the fearless (mostly) generalists out there! If "write what you know" is really such a Thing, then what about someone like me who writes . . . fantasy?
Maybe it's because you WANT your fantasies to be a thing! We all kind of live inside our own fantasies, don't we? 😊
Well, I sure do. And by now I know a lot about griffins :-)
My favorite line here is "specialize in all the things"!
How amazing that you got invited to a poetry workshop and it created an inner shift. Things like that happen when you say yes which is why you are our fearless leader and we try to be like you.
I didn't even know it was poetry but I'm really glad I tried it.
I have so many YES moments that have turned out well and so many stories to tell about those!!
