Does it count if we just decided one day to sell everything we owned, buy a used Jeep and a used Class A motorhome and hit the road? I thought so. We've been at it for a couple of years now and I blog about it on -dont shoot me- Wordpress (Jetpack).
We've journeyed from Texas to Arizona, North Carolina to Florida and presently in Colorado. Lots of side trips and fun destinations. Nothing like waking up to a new view around every three months or so.
You know what Kim? What you're doing is the EXACT idea I had when I launched this publication. That was my idea of Wildhood. It didn't work out for me (yet) but I LOVE that you're doing it!!
I do too! My hubby doesn't like to go, go, go as much as me when we get to a place but I want to get OUT THERE! TV is for night time, and I didn't get into this to sit in the motor home all the time. So yeah, I'm your rebel.
I swear, Kristi, I didn't even recognize myself in this. You are so unbelievably kind and generous and amazing and all the things. I absolutely, 100% LOVE that visual of running down Main Street with multi-colored streamers flying behind me! 😂
Yes, very accurate: "I have no idea what I'm doing but dammit... I'm gonna do it anyway!"
I'm so glad you're enjoying They're Not Just Dogs and appreciate you saying so. I'm in the middle of writing a Curiosity Project post about hitting resistance just as you're about to complete something and how common it is, and how to push through it. I literally just wrote about having a support system -- and here you are and here this is. I'm having trouble expressing my appreciation for your writing here so I'll just say thank you.
And Dezi can have roll-pups any time she wants!! Give that girl belly rubs for me, please.💖 🐶 💖 🐶 💖 🐶
Hahaha I think that line about the streamers was my favorite one to write in this entire post 😁😁
I watch you (and others) more closely than one might think because I respect the journey SO much. Been there, tried a.billion things, and keep trucking ahead. As I've told Alexa, I remember how it felt to receive encouragement at the most important parts of my journeys so this is my version of paying it forward. 😊
I love watching someone do something they are good at or testing their Wildhood so I love this post. I am currently working on a presentation for a speaking event (it will be available by recording for my paid subscribers) and, in it, one of the things I talk about is gaining the courage to stay with discomfort. Often we get derailed by our innate hardwiring to focus on what we have to lose rather than how great it might be and we might have to work to overcome this tendency. It's great to hear about Jennifer and Alexa taking these leaps.
Also, you are right when you say we don't necessarily have to pack our suitcase to find our deepest self because wherever we are they come too!
Nice! I like learning about the perspectives of these ladies!
I tried to move to NYC back in the year 2000. I couldn't get a job because I didn't have a permanent address and couldn't get a place to live because I didn't have a job. Ran out of money and had to come home. I had things lined up for a second attempt, but a week before my flight September 11 2001 happened. Instead of moving I enrolled in paramedic school.
Erik I remember you telling me bits about your NYC attempt. What a let down but also, maybe a blessing in disguise?? I guess you'll never know now but hey...you're finding your wild out there in the real wild too!
I'm following Elle Griffin's journey closely as she goes into the world to discover real life utopias! My other contender is my incredible mum, who solo sailed around the world in her 60s! Then she beat cancer. Now she's back on a boat, doing shorter passages but still giving us all heart attacks with the stories.

Wonderful post! I love that this is a place where we encourage others. Thanks for sharing a couple of people worth watching,
Thanks Linda, that means a lot!
Love your writing!
“Tooting our own horns is fun but rounding up a whole marching band for someone else is priceless.” Hell yeah!
To raising each other up!! 🥂

Oooh Donna, I'm looking forward to watching that video. It's so important to TRY in life and also important to hold up others who are trying 😊

Oh, it was absolutely a blessing. Me and any big city would not have worked out. I was just too young to realize that at the time!
Fabulous post. I can’t wait to check both of these ladies out! 😄 ALWAYS great to see a Dezi video here!
Lol i know, right? I wanted Jennifer’s story in Dog Snobs but I also wanted way more people to see it and I have WAY more subscribers here.

Holy smokes Shoni, your mom sounds like a super hero. What in incredible role model you have ❤️
She certainly is! She wrote a book about it too https://www.amazon.com.au/Just-me-sea-Jacqueline-Hope/dp/0987471120 she should start a boaty Substack, right?
Excuse me for butting in on this convo, but yes, please encourage your mom to do this. I will subscribe instantly.
I don't think butting in is a word here 😊 All engagement is welcome!
Hahaha yes!!!
