Great message, Kristi. Of course, I wouldn’t know anything about this. 😅

Lol of course! All of it is hypothetical 😁

I got a nice bottle of Cab here in my apartment - when do you two want to come over? Also there will be chips and dip. And we can subvert dominant paradigms all night!

Ha! Count me in for the chips. Those are my filthy habit. It's a date!

Hey Andee, I don't have to delete the comment. But I also don't really understand it for the most part. But like you said, you don't feel you're my audience and that's totally fine. I'm not for everyone!

Also, I'm not trying to launch a course. I paid a lot of money for a course 4 years ago but then a week later my son died and so I never revisited the course after that.

Anyway, I'm sure you meant well with your thoughts and comments. I'm just not understanding how it relates to what I wrote or the ladies I gathered with.

I don't believe I am your audience, Kristi. I respect what you do- but I am certain it is not written for me.

Having that said, I have lived in the perpetual state of paralysis and inaction in my life for ... a decade. Stuck in every way, Job. Body. Addictions. Everything. And since I've crawled out of that Andy Dufresne style, what I'll say is that people who DO THINGS... they don't talk like this with others.

And that's not some slap or insult. It's just... they don't. There's no commiserating. It's more like a firm "this is what I am doing." A vicious declaration.

We're the average of the 5-6 people closest to us. So sometimes, making motion, it's about just hanging out in rooms way the fuck out of your league, expertise, or understanding. The frequency and vibration of those people will accelerate whatever it is you desire.

I had to go through a whole process of adding and shedding, talking to humans I felt I had NO BUSINESS talking to or knowing. My former social circle was a bunch of victim consciousness drunks who worked in restaurants.

The next thing I'll say is re the comment that someone left: "Not everyone is a jazzed-up biz person." That's true. Not everyone, or even most people are cut out to be entrepreneurs. (Although you seem to be doing well on Substack. So that's evidence that you are.) And HARDLY ANY desire truly to sell some online course.

(The real desire is usually for passive income so they can live some life lacking responsibility. Which felt good when we had the maturity of a 21-year-old, but I'll tell you, I took this summer off and did nothing, and by the end, I was aching to create and contribute again.)

There's usually a larger purpose behind what is easy for us to do, even if it's hard- Ikigai if you will.

We can achieve contribute in many ways. It doesn't have to be on the internet "launching shit." What's the bigger desire? (I know you didn't ask me.) Half the time people have soul resistance because the shit just isn't for them and they're following someone else's prescriptive formula that absolutely is misaligned.

Which brings me to my next point: Western "eyes-forward," Ye olde "I look to a teacher to teach me the way" thinking. Life does not work that way. There is no way. Nobody knows what they're doing and everyone is making it up, only always.

So, that's what I've got. Hang out in rooms with people who scare the fuck out of you, read about quantum mechanics, and do shit that's terrifying. Every day. You'll have a whole new life in four more years.

And feel free to delete the comment if it doesn't fit here or you feel it somehow disempowers.

Love,

Jeanne Beker (yes, there's a throwback to FashionTelevision!) once said, "There's no perfect time to start anything." She was talking about adopting a puppy--you just have to work the pup into the mix whether it's Monday, Thanksgiving, after the gym, before a meeting---and it's so true. My grandfather would only start things on Mondays. Human nature waits for January 1st to reset and smarten up but when's the next push? A birthday?

I look at Jann Arden and what she's constantly doing and producing for that get going pinch. She just released her 16th studio album (in cassette version too!) in addition to a podcast, a VIP concert in Fiji, being godmother of the Avalon Tranquility II in France, championing wild horses, promoting The Bittlemores as she writes another book---I am overwhelmed, impressed and in awe of it all.

Fun fact: I took one of Ash Ambridge's Meat + Hair courses (for work)!

PS: Meat & Hair is the one I did not take (I think) lol. My first Ash course was way back in 2011-ish…a branding one. Her content is really great.

Clearly, look how fabulous we both are, Kristi! Haha!

We certainly are 😁😁😁

Jeanne Beker is right. We just have to start and forget about the “grand entry.” There’s never a perfect time, just a good time…to start.

Jann Arden is what I envy about celebrities. They have the money and time to just pick something up and do good things with it. But we can start small too.

Expand full comment

I think celebs like Jann have also had their huge share of lean times, basement apartments (ie. Living Under June), busking and shit times for performances at empty, dinky bars. And, one must still make time to record and write and save wild horses. I'm just grateful for all the time she has invested in her talent for our benefit.

You've asked the big question. What is the answer?

I guess it's for each of us to decide!

God yeah, this resonates with me too. I have two books to write and it is not even that difficult as I have most of the content already. I also want to start coaching people professionally. I have more skills than most but.. failure to launch!

Colin, I TOTALLY get the part about "I already have the content" because, so do I! It shouldn't be this hard to take some friggin action, right? Here's to both of us taking the next step!!!

Thank you for writing this. I needed to hear it. jfc it’s impossible to put my important projects, my much loved projects, the things I dream about day in and day out, as the first priority. But surely they can come near the top of the list instead of that absolute black hole that is “when I finish the tasks” (spoiler alert: there are always more tasks.) I talked a bit about this today in my best things list - about how hard we can be on ourselves and how I’m setting aside the baggage about my own expectations for how much I should have gotten done. It’s like I develop myopia for all I HAVE done because I know it’s not the Heart Work I want to be doing.

Time to shuffle the deck around again and put the heart work closer to the top. Thank you.

Karen, I think for many (me included) everything sits at a priority level below earning a living. So, we put so much time into surviving that we ignore the things that aren't paying us to do them...even though, if we would just DO them we'd start getting paid! 🙄

Preparation can become procrastination if you're not careful. (Not sure who that is from but I'm sure I stole it from someone)

That's 100% what it has been for me lol.

Hahaha, literally what I was journalling about today! Here’s an excerpt: “We often want the exact road map before we start, but the pursuit of the “perfect” road map can often get us stuck in a procrastination loop that is hard to get out of. Instead, look for one imperfect step forward.”

That last sentence is everything! Sounds like your wisest words end up in your journal!

I think I deserve a gold medal for procrastinating! please?

You can also hang on to an idea or a business that's not heading in the right direction, for way too long - because????

I'm thinking about it!

Thank you Kristi, a delightful push or indeed a shove to take action.

Many self-castigating experts here, including me. However...NO MORE SCOLDING ALLOWED. It is not "b.s", it is self-doubt. No scolding allowed. Holy Spirit tells me repeatedly, "just do one thing for five minutes, then rest...then do one thing for five minutes, then rest...then do one thing for five minutes, then rest." As one who has started over hundreds of times, I am done scolding myself. I will get done what I get done, even in five minute increments. So many of us are flat out emotionally exhausted with the PRESSURE of the world. I am done with this. I will get done what I get done and NO ONE measures me but the God I love. Also, Kristi Keller is THE BOMB! Blessings to all who try and try and try again...

Thank you, dear Kristi, you really do have such a great heart. Encouragement is what I try to do...and you have the same element. I appreciate your kind feedback...as I do not always know if people "get" my comments (blunt girl here!). Blessings to you, keep on!!
