This will be my last post in 2024, so why not help you send off the year with a thought-provoking, good-juju magnet?
We ALL have the power to make someone’s day, week, month, or life better. If you think that sounds too “big” for you, think again…and then keep reading.
I used to work as a bartender for a major hotel brand. I loved my job, and nothing was more important to me at work than the guest experience. I like to think that my love for any work I do reflects in my attitude.
One night at my bar, a lady sitting at a table in the restaurant paid me the highest work-related compliment I could hope for. She got up from her seat and went out of her way to approach me at the bar.
Here’s what she said:
“I just wanted to tell you that I’ve been watching you do your job. You’re always smiling and so friendly with everyone, and we’re sitting over there wishing we could have that kind of service.”
Then she discreetly took my hand, slipped me twenty bucks and said, “Take this. You’re getting our server’s tip. You should teach her how to be happy like you.”
At first, I didn’t know what to say or which part to respond to. When she told me I should teach the server how to be happy I simply said, “I can’t. You have to BE happy, and I love what I do.”
On the inside, I was gloating a little because that server was an arch-enemy of mine. She was never friendly or kind, at least, not to me.
I sincerely wished she could have heard what this lady said so that maybe she would check herself and her attitude but I also knew this was not my lesson to teach.
I told the woman that she had just made my entire week. My heart swelled at the fact that a complete stranger would go out of her way to pay such a compliment to another stranger. She put an extra spring in my step and gave me a little more faith in humanity.
We have no clue what someone else might be going through in life so if we have the power to improve someone’s day, life, or self-esteem….shouldn’t we want to?
Even more so as women toward women. We should always have a desire to lift each other up.
Just like another time when a stranger approached to tell me I’m beautiful. That’s all she said, then she kept on walking.
Sure, it’s nice to hear a man tell us we’re beautiful but when a woman says it to another woman, the effect feels much more profound. (Don’t worry guys, you’re beautiful too 😁)
There’s already far too much shaming, badmouthing, and nonsense going on among humans so why not be part of a solution instead of part of the problem?
These are pay-it-forward moments, whether it’s for us to pay forward in the future, or a reward for a pay-it-forward we’ve already done in the past.
Never be too shy or too afraid to go out of your way and notice someone, pay a compliment, or make someone’s day.
Occasionally, I’ll walk up to a random woman and tell her I love her curls or that the color she’s wearing looks fabulous on her. Seeing the way her face instantly lights up makes me know I just made her day.
Try it sometime. It’s an instant dopamine hit for both parties.
Being kind to a stranger could trigger a never-ending ‘chain of wonderful’ even if you’re not around to witness it when it happens!
Just know that it IS happening.
And on that note, I’ll close out 2024 by saying that YOU have made my year more
beautiful
wonderful
rewarding
validating
valuable
fulfilling
and SO worth showing up for every Tuesday.
May you all have a blessed holiday season and here’s to a kick-ass 2025 with more WILD than you could ever imagine!

Absolutely yes to this! These little things make a big difference. Even if we don't feel great that day, doing something nice for someone else will shift our energy and help US feel better. Thanks for this brilliant reminder to close out there year❤️
Recognition and encouragement are life changing. They cost nothing but time. And recognizing someone's awesomeness like that lady did for you - brightened the hell out of your day and hers too.
